Support Africa’s Forests
Chimpanzees live primarily in the rainforests of what used to be the equatorial forest belt in Africa. Rapid deforestation has left only fragmented patches of forest where a continuous habitat once stretched. |

The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) of Canada helps protect habitat for great apes by working with local communities in Africa to improve their standard of living and engage them in conservation activities. This approach is called community-centred conservation and it involves making sure that the needs of human communities are met in sustainable ways that improve their livelihoods and their quality of life while also conserving habitat for wildlife. |
You can help protect chimpanzee habitat and support JGI Canada’s community-centred conservation programs by joining the Planet Releaf fundraising campaign, which will raise funds to support our new program in Uganda.
|
Host a fundraiser at your school or in your community to contribute to the campaign. This is a perfect way to raise awareness about issues such as deforestation, endangered species and poverty, and to raise funds for a worthy cause.
|
Be creative – your imagination’s the only limit!
Host a Trivia Night or Fashion Show and charge a pay-what-you-can admission
Make your own paper and use it to sell custom-made bookmarks or journals
Hold a raffle for some African jewellery
Hold a bake sale or a car wash
Organize a walk-a-thon and award prizes to the groups who raise the most money
Upload your fundraising achievements here/in the online Project Database to help us reach our goal of $160,000 to protect Uganda’s forests and its chimpanzees.
