YLC Member Heads North
Katie O'Connell, Youth Leadership Council member (2008-2010) and long-time Roots & Shoots group leader and volunteer, was selected to participate in Polar Bears International's (PBI) Leadership Camp. The Camp, held in Churchill, Manitoba during the polar bear migration, allows high school students from around the world to experience the tundra in person, meet field scientists and community members, observe polar bears in their natural habitat, learn how global warming is affecting polar bears and explore how individuals can make a difference. Read about Katie's experiences first hand.

New YLC Recruited
Welcome to the 2010 Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Council! We have broadened our horizons quite literally this year, as our 11 members come from several Canadian provinces, spanning from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. We are excited to get started this year, to bring leadership to Roots & Shoots initiatives across the country and to provide mentorship to Roots & Shoots groups. Meet the new YLC!
Winner of Flip camera from Project Blue
Winners for the Project Blue campaign have been selected! Congratulations to L'Ecole Saint Catherine's School Roots & Shoots in Halifax, NS, who worked very hard to reduce water consumption in their school toilets. They will be awarded with a Flip camera to help document their next projects. Get inspired by reading about how they saved 1 litre of water for every flush!

Contemplating Copenhagen: Searching for Climate Change Solutions
Ali and Amy deliberate on the successes and failures of the climate change negotiations in Copenhagen last December. Like many other global citizens, they are disappointed with the outcome of the negotiations, but believe that the steps that have been taken can provide the groundwork for real change. They also emphasize that the level of youth participation at the Copenhagen conference shows that youth in Canada and around the world can make a positive impact on decision-makers, and will be the responsible leaders of the future.
