Peace Day 2009
September 20 |
 |
Roots & Shoots celebrated Peace Day 2009 across the country, on September 20. Thank you to everyone who came out in southern Ontario and British Columbia to march in support of worldwide peace!

|
SOUTHERN ONTARIO
Our event at Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary in Sunderland, was touching and symbolic, as we celebrated Peace for all Primates. We celebrated with people and animals, in a wonderful environment.
At Story Book Farm we met and learned about the primates, who have been rescued from biomedical research, zoos, universities & private residences. We also had many inspiring and educational speeches and performances by our special guests.
The day came to a close with a wonderful display of flying Peace Doves and a spiritual send off by the Aboriginal ancestors.

Special Guests:
Kim Wheatley, Traditional Aboriginal opening and closing ceremonies
James Brooks, 1000 Classrooms
Sarah Young, Free the Children
Cynthia C. Wesley-Esquimaux,
Professor in Aboriginal Studies at the University of Toronto
BRITISH COLUMBIA
In partnership with Science World, we also celebrated Peace Day in Vancouver. Families and individuals joined in as we built peace doves and painted peace posters.
To spread the message of peace, we marched our doves both inside and outside of Science World! |
