Peace Day 2008

September 21

On Sunday September 21st , thousands of Roots & Shoots members and friends around the world built and flew giant Peace Doves. Jane Goodall led the way at UN headquarters in New York.

To celebrate Peace Day, Roots & Shoots Canada organized a gathering at Hart House Circle at the University of Toronto. The day was full of excitement! We started off by building giant peace doves, which we flew on our march to Queen's Park after lunch. Lunch was generously made by students at UTS.

Special guests included:

Inspirational speeches by Bilaal Rajan, Izzy Hirji and Sarah Young

African drumming by Baro Dununba

Peace songs performed by the Toronto Raging Grannies

A big thank you to everyone who joined us on peace day - it wouldn't have been the same without you!
